Our Story

SSAA

We are a boutique design studio based in Bangkok. Our practice explores the interdisciplinary design; Architecture, Interior, and Landscape.

With regard to our name, SSAA symbolizes the full name of “Songsombat Sukasam And Associates,” descending surnames of our co-founders ― a traditional convention in naming an architectural firm. Nonetheless, we are fond of a modern twist, that way, we twist the traditional name for a more modern abbreviation ― SSAA.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

With the same notion as naming our studio, our work draws inspiration from the older days and places. We tend to look for traces and clues in the existing condition, whether it is a building or a land plot, then we create our work in conformity with the modern norm.

There are a few basis shared among all of our works, a common thing that we emphasize and hold dear. First, since we much cherish the aesthetic of Minimalism, our works in some way or another take the notion of simple functionality and understated beauty for the visual aspect. By allowing the absence, the eyes can travel comfortably, and appreciate the presence even more. The approach also avoids overstimulating the mind and promotes serenity. Next, our work commonly finishes in natural materials and neutral colours, transferring sensation we perceive in nature ― to feel calmness and freedom. In our perspective, we read these spaces beautiful not by what the eye can see, but by the feeling they evoke. Combined with our love for Minimalism, the material palette is kept at its absolute minimum to create consistency and coherency in a project. Lastly, by blurring the line of indoor and outdoor, we set our sight on seamless connection with nature to create a sanctuary-like quality. When designing a home, this connection becomes apparent and significant, as it elevates the living experience for the residents. 

This is a brief on our design philosophy ― a language we hope to find kindred spirits that share the same value in design.
